Why do darker colors absorb more light than lighter colors and what makes this happen?
Can you give me either links to a more detailed explanation behind this or give me the name of a book that will explain this? I know that darker colors absorb more heat because they don't reflect as much light as lighter colors, but can you explain the resoning behind this?
you need to know how the eye works...
ie types of cells that absorb different wavelengths of light and send the information to your brain. there are 3 colours in this respect, red blue and green. given that some cells absorb light centred around red wavelengths, some around blue etc...
so colour then is govorned by the amount of light absorbed by these cells. if you're looking at something white, these cells are stimulated to a similar degree. in darkness there is no stimulation for these cells. green light would only stimulate green absorbing cells, etc.
when you are looking at dark colours, there is little light being reflected to your eyes. if the source of light is certainly shining on them, but they still appear dark, then the light must be absorbed by the object (logically),
so colours are dark BECAUSE they absorb light.

why do they absorb light? that would be to do with the chemical bonds on the surface of the material. which i cant be bothered to go into. i'm gonna watch a movie instead
